Borussia Dortmund edged their local rivals by two goals on the occasion with the home team going down to a side who beat Arsenal during the week.
It was Pierre Emerick Aubameyang who opened the scoring before Turkish international Nuri Sahin and also Jakub Blaszczykowski getting on the scorecard whilst for Schalke it was young prospect Max Meyer who scored to give the team some consolation.
