Milan opened the scoring with Ignazio Abate curling in a precise cross which found the head of Italian international Stephan El Shaarawy who struck it home.

PSV found the equaliser and some hope going into the next leg with an opportunistic goal coming from Matavz heading from close range after a sizzling shot from Bruma could only be palmed away by Abbiati.
