It was Kieran Gibbs who opened the scoring early in the second half with the left-back finding the roof of the net after Theo Walcott lashed in a cross for Gibbs to finish.
They then doubled the advantage with Aaron Ramsey scoring a goal with a shot from outside the box with Volken only able to help the ball into the back of the net with his saving attempt.
Arsenal almost put the tie in doubt with the third and final goal of the evening when Theo Walcott was brought down in the area. Olivier Giroud stepped up and finish quite comfortably to give his side a three goal lead heading into next week's return leg.
