Portugal opened the scoring in the first half with defender Bruno Alves finding the back of the net but their lead barely lasted with the home team equalising.
The turning point could've been Helder Postiga's sending off just before the break and when the second half began, Jamie Ward put his side in the lead.
But as the win looked unlikely for the Portuguese, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to score three goals in just 15 minutes of match time.
