Manchester City had a strong second half showing to prevail over Championship club Wigan Athletic who beat the Premier League runner's up in last season's FA Cup final.
It was Edin Dzeko who opened the scoring for the home team but it would be the only goal in the first half giving them a slight advantage into the second half.
Steven Jovetic scored to make it a two goal advantage fairly early on in the second half and they didn't look back with Toure, Jovetic and also Navas getting goals in the last 15 minutes of the match.
